The Extraterrestrial Mining Co: A heritage brand from 50 years in the future
XMC presented a rare kind of brief- branding for an industry that doesn't technically exist yet. Space mining is still finding its feet, but XMC needed to wrangle regulators, engineers, governments, and contractors into the same conversation. The problem: a complicated offer that felt scary and alien. To most people, space mining is still still science fiction.
I conducted competitor research and stakeholder interviews XMC emerges as a super-connector, code-switching across industries and bringing together the people to make the space economy happen.
Just because something doesn't exist yet doesn't mean it never will, even Harvard and NASA were new once. I developed their positioning: a heritage brand from 50 years in the future. I wrote the brand story, campaign headlines, social and website copy.
With a clear brand in hand, XMC continued their funding journey, finally able to explain why what they do matters.
